Beverly Mitchell, MD
Professor, Medicine, Stanford
Bev is the George E. Becker Professor of Medicine at Stanford and Director of the Stanford Cancer Institute. Her current research relates to the development of new therapies for hematologic malignancies. She is interested in preclinical proof of principle studies on mechanisms inducing cell death and on metabolic targets involving nucleic acid biosynthesis in malignant cells. Recent studies have focused on the role of nucleolar proteins in cellular stress responses, including that induced by reactive oxygen species. She is also interested in the regulation of hematopoiesis in stem and progenitor cells and in the etiology and treatment of bone marrow failure syndromes. Her laboratory is also involved in the translation of these studies into scientifically designed clinical trials for patients. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine and served as President of the American Society of Hematology (ASH).
